X55 Hi-Seal

A long life, high build, mineral coating with a smooth finish.

Specifically developed for use in applications requiring a long-lasting, decorative and protective coating with a smooth matt finish, X55 Hi-Seal Paint combines outstanding durability, long-term performance and flexibility, in an attractive, low-slip, low-skid, wear-resistant finish. It is the smooth version of Ability’s famous and patented subtly stipple-textured the Paint product.

Supplied in ready-to-mix with water powder form, X55 Hi-Seal Paint is a water-based, two-pack but one step preparation, polymer-modified, inorganic paint, that is UV-resistant, weather-resistant and watertight, and resists attack by highly damaging salt solution ingress. At the same time, X55 Hi-Seal Paint provides both thermal and acoustic insulation properties, while also acting as an effective fire retardant.

Easy and safe to use, X55 Hi-Seal Paint is free of VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) and does not emit harmful 'greenhouse' gasses. It is available in a range of ‘standard’ colours, or as a ‘custom project colour-matched’ product.

Use with:

X55 Hi-Seal Paint, used like normal paint, is suitable for use on vertical and horizontal and sloping surfaces including walls, floors, decks, steps, ramps and pavements.

X55 Hi-Seal Paint is also ideal for use in areas or on items that will be permanently submerged in fresh chlorinated or salt-water, including pools, ponds, water features, piers, moorings and marinas. X55 Hi-Seal Paint can be applied to almost any type of stable, firm, sound and clean surface, including:

• Concrete (including recently placed, high alkaline, high pH concrete)
• Mortar (including rendered and plastered wall surfaces)
• Fibre cement panels and planking
• Asphalt and bitumen emulsion sprayed pavement surfaces
• Masonry
• Wood that has been primed with a good wood primer
• Suitably primed iron, steel and a range of other suitably prepared metal surfaces.

Benefits:

Developed with a focus on durability and long-term performance, X55 Hi-Seal Paint delivers a range of benefits, including:

• 100% active solids formulation can provide an extremely high protective Dry Film Thickness (DFT) for excellent protection
• Watertight formulation provides protection against water permeation and corrosive sulphate and chloride salt solution ingress
• Allows a structure in air to ‘ breathe’ as it transmits water vapour
• Combines exceptionally high UV, oxidation, weathering and chemical resistance, with excellent abrasion and wear resistance
• Highly protective coating that considerably helps both iron and steel
to resist rusting
• Combines hardness, flexibility and excellent adhesion with very low shrinkage, thereby reducing the risk of the applied product cracking, lifting or flaking
• Easy-to-use and apply with normal paint application equipment
• Can be used with a variety of application methods to provide various architectural and/or decorative effects
• Can be colour matched to almost any colour to suit specific project requirements and to rectify off-colour precast concrete panels
• Extremely durable

Usage and application:

Supplied as ready-to-use, 100% solids powder, X55 Hi-Seal Paint should be thoroughly mixed (using a power mixer) into the specified quantity of clean, potable water (drinking water) just prior to application.

X55 Hi-Seal Paint should be applied liberally and uniformly to the prepared surface, which should be clean, sound and lightly but uniformly water dampened preferably by 3000 psi water blasting prior to application. X55 Hi-Seal Paint can be applied using most standard painting / application methods including brush, roller, sponge and/or spray (using suitable equipment).

Once mixed using the recommended rates and mixing procedure, X55 Hi-Seal Paint has a useable ‘pot’ life of approximately 5 hours at 23°C. At the same temperature, the applied product becomes ‘touch-dry’ in around 30-45 minutes.

After the application of two coats, the set painted surface should be gently hosed intermittently with clean tap water to assist with curing and hardening. For maximum protection, it is recommended that this water spray curing technique be carried out several times - 6 x 10 minute hosings - intermittently over the following 2-3 days.

Dosage rates:

Recommended mixing proportions for X55 Hi-Seal Paint are 2 parts X55 Hi-Seal Paint powder to 1 part clean potable (drinking) water by volume.

Compatibility:

X55 Hi-Seal Paint is suitable for use on most (prepared to be clean) stable and water dampened, vertical, horizontal and sloping substrates. For surfaces that have been previously coated and/or treated with other products, please contact Ability Building Chemicals Co for further information.

Packaging:

X55 Hi-Seal Paint is supplied in 20kg pails.

Coverage:

On average, the coverage rate for a 20kg pail of X55 Hi-Seal Paint is 50m2 for the recommended two coats.

Storage:

For maximum shelf-life, X55 Hi-Seal Paint should be stored in its original container, out of direct sunlight, in appropriate, dry conditions. When kept dry and stored under low-humidity conditions in its original unopened container, X55 Hi-Seal Paint has a storage shelf life in excess of 12 months.

Precautions:

X55 Hi-Seal Paint is a non-hazardous, non-flammable, non-explosive substance and is classed as a non-dangerous good, however, it is recommended that the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and precautions are followed when handling and using the product:

• Wear full overalls, gloves safety goggles and a dust mask during mixing
• Avoid skin and eye contact
• Always wash hands before eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet.
